Regional education office reports home-visit strategy improved attendance for chronically absent students

A Regional Office of Education representative told the board the office tripled home visits from August to September and more than doubled phone, text and email outreach after schools reopened, and that targeted interventions produced notable attendance gains for several students.
"We have 10 of our tier 2 kids" who exited the tier, the presenter said, describing Tier 2 as students who did not respond to Tier 1 interventions and who participated in a truancy advisory board that worked with families and offered additional resources. The report cited individual case improvements, including one student raising attendance from 47% at the end of last year to 100% at the start of the current year, one from 66% to 100%, and another from 57% to 96%.
The presenter credited Angelo Parker, identified as the office's Tier 2 specialist, for outreach work. The presenter also confirmed the office received an insurance grant, but that an appeal was filed and the final award amount is pending.
