The Sioux City Community School District board on Sept. 22 heard a human-resources update showing continued openings among paraprofessionals, particularly in special education, and approved a memorandum of understanding with Family Access Center to provide licensed clinicians for the 2025–26 school year.
Barb Kaske presented the human-resources report and Director Greenwell noted the district still has a significant number of paraprofessional openings for classroom support, especially in special education. Superintendent Juan Cordova said the vacancy numbers have been steadily decreasing from prior reports and that staff will prepare a return-on-investment review of recent advertising and recruiting efforts.
The board unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding with the Family Access Center to provide licensed clinicians for therapy, consultation and crisis support for the 2025–26 school year. Dora Young was present to answer questions on the MOU. The motion passed 7–0.
The board also acknowledged the district’s 2025–26 Teacher Quality (TQ) Committee. Amy Denny explained that the TQ Committee is required by Iowa code, is composed of roughly half teacher association members and half administrative nominees, and reviews allocation of state professional-development funds and teacher-evaluation systems.
Board members said retention and recruitment of paraprofessionals remain priorities and that staff will continue efforts to reduce turnover and address compensation to attract and retain support staff.
