Raymore parks and recreation staff told the City Council on Sept. 22 that fall recreational programming has grown sharply: 1,089 athletes were registered across basketball, volleyball, soccer and flag football this season, spread over 96 teams. Parks Superintendent Nathan Mustine said the department’s athletics staff fielded 96 total teams, outpacing nearby communities such as Pleasant Hill, which the staff reported has 61 teams. Mustine also reported 48 children registered for the Walter Buck Memorial Fishing Derby, an increase of roughly 15 participants from the previous year. Mustine thanked staff who attended the National Recreation and Park Association conference and said the department’s move of the fishing derby to Rec Park, with lights and other amenities, helped boost participation. Upcoming events noted in the report include Trucktoberfest on Oct. 3 at TB Hannah (featuring four food trucks: La Chocla, Kona Ice, Island Spice and City Sips) and the Paws and Pumpkins 5K; registration for the 5K remains open. Mustine closed by inviting questions; none were substantive. The council later approved routine consent items including a Memorial Park final pay item and final acceptance for the Owen Good Force Main replacement, which staff reports indicated were complete and ready for final payment.
