Leaders of the Katy ISD Education Foundation presented their annual report to the Board of Trustees Monday, telling trustees the foundation awarded $514,000 in teacher grants across 53 campuses this year and has distributed more than $4 million in grants since 2011.
Robin Pye, president of the foundation’s board, and Karen Lewis described grant administration, audited financials, the foundation’s organizational chart, and a grants-at-a-glance listing provided to trustees. The Foundation said nearly half of its annual funds come from recurring foundation investors, businesses and individual donors, and that a core volunteer cohort called the Foundation 40 has expanded to sustain large signature events.
Officials said the foundation funded grants impacting more than 72,000 students this year and that every campus has received grants. Trustees praised the foundation’s work, noted growth that enabled funding a part-time development position funded by the foundation, and discussed continuing community engagement to sustain teacher grants. Trustee comments also noted that about 125 classroom groups received awards this year (district staff clarified that many grants cover groups of teachers rather than single classrooms). Trustee Miss Fox said the foundation’s fundraising "sends a beautiful message to our teachers that this community is behind them." The board had no action item beyond receiving the annual report.
