Lake Dallas High School's thespian troop earned Gold Honor Troop recognition from the Texas Thespians and the International Thespian Society for the 2024–25 school year, drama director Melissa Shamp and student leaders told the district board on Sept. 22.
Student leaders who run the troop's leadership board described a year-long program of monthly assignments and goals that are graded on a 100-point scale. "This is completely run by them. They are responsible for turning in all of this stuff every single month," a student leader, Theresa Carruth, said, describing the student-led nature of the work.
The presenters said the honor troop program awards bronze, silver or gold levels based on an aggregate score, and to earn gold a troop must average between 90 and 100 across its assignments during the school year. The district presentation said Lake Dallas High School's troop completed assignments such as community service, outreach to middle schools, setting SMART goals, and expanding access to theater for interested students.
Shamp and the student leaders said the troop received a banner and plaque at the beginning of the 2025–26 school year and that the recognition reflects sustained student leadership and community outreach. Board members congratulated the students; the presentation did not require board action.
