Lake Dallas Elementary has been designated a Purple Star campus by the Texas Education Agency for the 2025–26 school year, Principal Carrie Blevins told the Lake Dallas Independent School District Board of Trustees on Sept. 22.
The Purple Star designation recognizes schools that demonstrate a sustained commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families. Blevins told the board the designation requires four criteria: a designated military liaison on staff, a dedicated webpage of resources for military-connected families, a campus transition program, and at least one additional supporting initiative. "We're proud to say that our campus met and in many ways exceeded all of these criteria," Blevins said.
Blevins described the campus's additional initiative during Month of the Military Child in April, when Lake Dallas Elementary used morning announcements to highlight military-connected students, hosted a "purple up" day encouraging students and staff to wear purple, and formally recognized military-connected students at a leadership assembly.
The principal told trustees the school was the only elementary campus in Region 11 to receive the Purple Star designation for 2025–26. Board members offered congratulations; there was no further discussion and no board action was required.
The Purple Star program is administered through the Texas Education Agency. Blevins said the campus-level steps that qualified Lake Dallas Elementary for the recognition are intended to support student social, emotional and academic needs tied to frequent school or community transitions experienced by some military families. The district's recognition will be part of campus communications and photo opportunities, including the presentation made at the Sept. 22 meeting.
