An emergency ordinance amending city pay bands to conform with the Fair Employment Wage Board recommendation was presented to the committee on Sept. 22. The change raises the city minimum wage from $15.85 to $16.26 based on the Consumer Price Index increase of 2.6% included in the board’s recommendation.
A city human resources official explained that the ordinance updates multiple sections of the salary ordinance to implement the board’s CPI adjustment. Vice Chair Bishop of the Fair Employment Wage Board (present at the hearing) urged broader media outreach so workers are aware of the city board’s work and the wage change; the board was reconstituted recently after a long hiatus.
Committee members accepted the recommendation and the ordinance will be scheduled for full‑council consideration that evening, staff said.
