Gonzales earns Blue Zones community certification as Monterey County becomes first certified county in California

The Gonzales City Council accepted Blue Zones community certification for the city on Sept. 15, recognizing Gonzales as one of five certified cities in Monterey County and part of the countywide designation, presenters said.
Blue Zones Project regional director Kendra Howell told the council, "it is really a big deal. So congratulations," and said the county — including Gonzales — has achieved certified Blue Zones community designation. Howell said Monterey County is the first county in California to hold that designation and noted the countywide effort began with a readiness assessment in Salinas in 2018.
