Dona Ana County proclaims Sept. 30–Oct. 3 as Walk to School days

The Dona Ana County Board of County Commissioners on Sept. 19 proclaimed Sept. 30 through Oct. 3 as Walk to School days in the county. Commissioner Sanchez introduced the proclamation and invited Safe Routes to School representatives to accept it on behalf of Las Cruces Public Schools’ Safe Routes program.
Kenny Coppage and other Safe Routes to School champions spoke to the commission, noting partnerships with county planners, engineers and sheriff’s deputies and describing a recent trails project at Columbia Elementary that will be used for planned walk‑to‑school events. The proclamation text recited county participation rates and local program details and was signed by County Manager Scott Andrews.
The commission encouraged residents to visit the Las Cruces Public Schools website and sign up via posted QR codes to participate in individual school events during the proclamation period.
