Commission approves county match for courthouse mid-century addition restoration grant

Fayette County commissioners voted Sept. 18 to provide a local cash match to pursue a Community Facilities/CFIA grant to repair the courthouse mid-century addition.
Staff said a Keystone cost estimate for the work came in at about $119,000; CFIA would provide $100,000 under the proposed grant and the county would provide the remaining funds as a local match. The repairs described in county documents include stabilizing rusted steel lintels, resetting shifting coping stones and repairing flashing and mortar joints.
A commissioner moved to approve the county match and the motion carried by voice vote.
Why it matters: the mid-century courthouse addition has structural elements that staff identified as in need of repair; the grant will cover the majority of contractor costs if the application is successful.
