Fayette County commissioners at their Sept. 18 meeting approved a license fee to restore the countyrecorder connection to the county's radio system so 911 calls can be recorded directly.
County staff said Motorola issued an upgrade to the county Astro 25 system and the countyvendor for recordings, Carolina Recording, requires a subsequent Motorola license to re-enable the direct-record function. A county presenter described the fee as the license for that connection and told commissioners the charge could recur if Motorola issues another system upgrade in the future.
Commissioners voted to approve the license fee as presented. County staff said the invoice/procurement paperwork will be corrected to reflect current contract dates; the presenter said the price will not change.
Why it matters: direct recording of radio traffic provides a verbatim archive of 911 dispatch and first-responder communications used for incident review and records requests.
