The Champaign County Board voted Sept. 18 to adopt Resolution 2025-264 appointing Monique Settles as county board member for District 10 to fill the unexpired term of Jason Batata. The resolution names Settles to serve through Nov. 30, 2026, and she took the oath of office at the meeting.

Board Chair John Locke called for the vote on the resolution; members approved the appointment by voice vote. Settles stood and was sworn in on the county seal before taking photographs with board members. During the meeting, a board member (identified as JJ during proceedings) asked whether any legal timing issues applied because of a previous interim occupant of the seat; staff and the chair confirmed the appointment complied with applicable timelines.

The board did not take further formal action tied to the appointment at the Sept. 18 meeting.
