Council approves colorful pedestal ring sculptures at Aldi entrance for village public‑art requirement

The Village Council approved architectural/aesthetic review Sept. 18 for three pedestal ring sculptures titled Colorful Perspectives by artist Lucy Kashavos at the Aldi warehouse entrance. Planning Director Bradford O’Brien presented the application and said the Planning & Zoning Commission recommended approval. The applicant’s representative displayed scale models and explained the sculptures will be placed in the median at the entrance, vary in height (about 9 feet, 12 feet and 15 feet total including pedestal), sit on pedestals, and will be externally lit. The artist said the circles carry symbolic meaning: “The circles have a lot of meaning, and it’s about infinity and just the recycling of life,” and described the pieces as playful forms that change emotionally as viewers move around them. Council members confirmed the sculptures’ placement in the median, landscaping (low groundcover) and lighting plans; staff said the installation mirrors previous public art pieces in the village. The application was approved unanimously.
