Residents say planning packets posted too late; commission agrees to review posting practices

Residents at the Sept. 18 Prattville Planning Commission meeting told commissioners that meeting packets and revisions were posted to the city website at short notice, limiting their ability to review materials before hearings.

“Sometimes you guys have a lot of stuff, and citizens like to research. So when do you get your packets?” asked John Lee Finnegan, a Deertrace resident. Finnegan said materials for the meeting had been posted less than 24 hours before the hearing. Another resident asked that the packets be available by Monday or Tuesday for Thursday meetings so citizens have time to research.

Planning staff and commissioners replied that the main packet had been distributed the week before and that some revisions arrived later; one commissioner said a revised packet arrived the night before. The commission agreed to bring the topic up for discussion and attempt to post packets earlier. “We'll bring that up for discussion, and thank you for that information,” a commissioner said on the record.
