Commission discusses cutting regular meetings to once a month; staff to return with alternate calendar

Staff rationale: Planning staff said recent legislation (House Bill referenced in staff comments) will transfer many routine design reviews to administrative processes beginning Jan. 1, 2026. Staff reported that in the current year the commission had canceled eight of 17 scheduled meetings and proposed a single monthly meeting to provide a predictable calendar and reduce unnecessary cancellations. Staff suggested the second Monday of each month because the council chambers were available then.

Commissioner feedback: Commissioners generally supported moving to one meeting a month but did not agree on the Monday date. Multiple commissioners said Monday evenings conflict with personal standing commitments; others said meeting earlier in the month or on a Thursday (first or second Thursday) would better align with council meeting timing and staff workload. Vice Chair DeRosa and staff agreed to review the town calendar and return with alternative day options that avoid holidays and recurring conflicts.
