Board adopts $4.8 billion six‑year CIP including Racetrack Road fire station, One Water project and library work

Following the FY2026 budget adoption, the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners reopened the capital improvement program public hearing and voted 7-0 to adopt a six‑year CIP totaling about $4.8 billion for fiscal years 2026–2031.
Management and Budget Director Kevin Brickey presented the CIP overview, describing a program that includes funding for a new fire station on Racetrack Road, one replacement fire station at Falkenberg, jail improvements, relocation of the sheriff’s operations centers, the county’s One Water project, various stormwater and park projects, and additional funds for roadway pavement, bridges, sidewalks and intersection improvements. Brickey also noted funding for Lithia Pinecrest and Van Dyke corridors and for a new library plus two replacement libraries.
No members of the public spoke during the CIP hearing. Following the presentation, Commissioner Cohen moved to adopt the CIP as presented; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Bostel and carried 7-0. The County Attorney’s Office had reviewed the resolution for legal sufficiency, the chair noted, and the board adjourned after adoption.
Adoption of the CIP sets the county’s capital spending plan and authorizes staff to proceed with project planning and procurement steps consistent with the adopted budget and project schedules.
