Tampa Bay Water's board unanimously approved staff requests to submit cooperative funding applications to the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) for two initiatives: the Tampa Bay WaterWise conservation rebate program and the South Hills Water Pipeline. Maribel Medina, director of planning and projects, told the board the WaterWise program offers conservation rebates for homeowners, multifamily, and non‑residential buildings and is expected to save up to 3,800,000 gallons per day by 2030. For fiscal year 2027 staff will request about $540,000 for that program. The second application is for the South Hills water pipeline, a roughly 26‑mile pipeline up to 60 inches in diameter linking a Lithia point of connection and a new connection in the Bonne Riverview area; the project qualifies for up to $145,000,000 from the district and staff will request $17,500,000 in fiscal 2027. Medina reviewed the agency’s previous funding history, noting Tampa Bay Water has received about $4,000,000 through state appropriations, about $60,000,000 from federal appropriations/grants, and about $473,000,000 from SWFWMD since 1998. Mayor Davis made the motion to approve submitting the district co‑funding requests; Commissioner Oakley seconded, and the board voted unanimously.
