County issues proclamations for suicide-prevention walk and National Transportation Demand Management Week

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Washington County commissioners accepted two proclamations Thursday: one recognizing suicide-prevention efforts tied to an upcoming Out of the Darkness walk and a second declaring September 2025 as National Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Week in the county.
Officials from the county’s Suicide Prevention Task Force and the PathFinder program described community activities connected to the proclamation. Rebecca, identified in the meeting as the PathFinder chair, said the task force’s Out of the Darkness walk will be held at Washington Park with registration starting at 10 a.m. and a walk beginning at 11 a.m.; she invited commissioners and members of the public to attend. Rebecca described an on-site Garden of Reflection and Remembrance being completed with a ribbon-cutting ceremony; she said the garden will include benches, rocks of inspiration and a birdbath as a reflection space.
Earlier in the meeting, commissioners adopted a proclamation recognizing National TDM Week for September 2025. Anthony (TDM manager at the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission) addressed the board, described SPC’s metropolitan planning responsibilities across southwestern Pennsylvania, and summarized the role of TDM in reducing single-occupancy vehicle trips, easing congestion, improving air quality and expanding travel options through collaboration with local transit providers.
Commissioners voted to adopt both proclamations during the meeting’s consent items. County staff noted contact and resource information for residents in crisis during the suicide-prevention presentation and cited the county 24/7 crisis line (+1 877-205-67, as read aloud) and the 988 national line for callers outside the county.
