Excelsior expands day‑respite hours for K‑8 students in System of Care grant pilot

Excelsior told the Spokane Regional Crisis Collaborative it has extended day‑respite hours to noon–5 p.m. Monday through Friday and is operating a pilot for kindergarten through eighth‑grade students, speaker Drew said.
Drew said the program provides day respite (not overnight), includes a mental‑health assessment, and requires a serious emotional disturbance (SED) determination to qualify. Staff delivering services include peer supports, therapists and a certified recreational specialist, he said. The fall pilot follows a summer respite camp and the program will adapt to school schedules and breaks.
Drew said the pilot is currently grant‑funded through a System of Care grant and is open to all participants (it is not limited to members of a managed‑care organization). The stated goal is to integrate the model into Medicaid coverage once the pilot demonstrates outcomes, he said. Calen Roy offered to distribute a flyer to the SRCC list for interested parties.
