Applicant withdraws Salina sign-variance request for First Covenant Church to work with staff

Charles Renz, an architect with Jones Gillum Renz Architects, withdrew variance application V-25-5 on behalf of First Covenant Church during the Salina Board of Zoning Appeals meeting Sept. 18, saying the applicant would meet with city staff to pursue a code-compliant sign.
The withdrawal was reported by a staff member during the meeting; no vote by the board was required. The staff member said the applicant sent an email the previous day notifying the city of the withdrawal and that planners will work with the applicant "to facilitate more discussion and hopefully come to a consensus on a new sign."
The staff member said the applicant may refile at a later meeting after meeting with staff. No timetable for a resubmission was provided; staff said only that the matter could appear at a future hearing. The board did not take formal action on the application at the Sept. 18 meeting.
