District reports nearly 200 staff CPR/AED certified; board awards AED service contract

District administrators told the board on Sept. 17 that 195 staff members had completed CPR and AED training as of the meeting date and that additional sessions at the district’s five schools would raise the number above 200.
Why it matters: Widespread CPR and AED training among staff aims to reduce response times in medical emergencies and improve student and staff safety during the school day.
Superintendent and administrators credited district safety and security staff and technology and security coordinators for organizing training. Matt Leitzel, the district’s school safety/security coordinator, and Greg Hunt, the technology coordinator, were named as facilitators of recent in-person training sessions.
The board also approved awarding the AED service plan for the 2025–26 school year to CPR Baltimore Hanover at a cost of $6,064. The motion was moved and seconded and carried on a voice vote; no nays or abstentions were recorded.
Next steps: The district will continue to schedule CPR/AED sessions for staff and implement the AED service plan through the awarded vendor.
