District announces districtwide cultural celebrations calendar for 2025—6

District equity and family-engagement staff told the board Tuesday that several districtwide cultural events and a new monthly grade-level rotation will guide celebrations during the 2025-26 school year. The calendar includes a Hispanic Heritage Month event set for Oct. 2 at 6 p.m., a district Culture Night on Dec. 2 at Central, a Black History Month program on Feb. 19 at 6 p.m., and a Special Olympics event scheduled for May 26 at 10 a.m. at the EP Sports Complex. Staff said reminders and flyers have been distributed through the district newsletter and by text message. District staff also described a district Equity Leadership Team plan to implement monthly grade-level cultural activities using rotating "buckets" such as music, art, language, meditation, dance and sports to ensure consistent engagement across grade levels. "It's really important for us to celebrate and represent our students and our families in these events," the presenter said. The board thanked staff for the schedule; no action was required. Staff said they will continue outreach to families to encourage attendance and participation.
