The Riverhead Central School District Board of Education approved the district's annual goals, which will be posted in each school, and approved the districtwide safety plan after a previous presentation by the district safety coordinator.
The Riverhead Central School District Board of Education voted to adopt the district’s annual goals and approved the districtwide safety plan at its Sept. 17 regular meeting. The goals will be posted in every school building and include priorities on student achievement, safety and facilities, budget development and community engagement, including a new Community Involvement and Language Access Advisory Committee.
Superintendent Michael Hagen (identified in the meeting as Doctor Hagen) said the district’s vision includes developing a portrait of a graduate to reflect New York State expectations and incorporating proven instructional practices and professional development to support educators. He told trustees the goals document will be shaped visually by ZE Communications and posted in each building.
The safety plan was presented to the board at the previous meeting by Terry Culhane and was approved on the consent agenda during Tuesday’s meeting (motion to accept safety plan: Miss Murphy; second: Ms. Healy; outcome: approved). Board members also approved a memorandum of agreement with RCFA (the teachers’ association) and several contracts and operational items that accompany the start of the 2025–26 school year.
Board members said the goals emerged from an administrative workshop that developed a set of operating principles summarized in the acronym "PRIDE" (professionalism, respect, in-the-moment/presence, direct communication, engaged teamwork) and a theme for the year, "Infinite Possibilities." Superintendent Hagen said the principles were drafted by administrators during a day-long workshop and will be reflected when staff and students are recognized before the board.
The board approved the goals and the safety plan without extended public debate at the meeting. The goals, the superintendent said, are available online and will be posted in school buildings. The record does not show further immediate policy changes beyond the approvals recorded on the consent agenda.
