A parent told the Buffalo Board of Education on Sept. 17 that bus service provided by First Student has been unreliable, leaving students waiting without a safe way home and disrupting families’ schedules.
Wakia Akter said her daughter frequently lacked reliable transportation this school year and that, on one recent occasion, her daughter waited at school until a parent could pick her up after work. “This is not just an inconvenience. It impacts learning, family structures, schedules, and most importantly, student well‑being and safety,” Akter said. She urged the board to hold First Student accountable to the contract and to explore alternative providers if service does not improve.
Superintendent Dr. Pascual Mupinga and board members did not announce specific actions at the meeting, but the superintendent acknowledged the complaint and staff said they were taking notes on public comments to address operational issues. The parent requested transparency and a reliable plan to ensure all students have safe, consistent transportation.
