Minooka District 111 approves new three-year e-learning plan; no recent survey of household internet access

The Minooka Community High School District 111 Board of Education approved a three-year e-learning plan at its meeting. District staff said the plan replaces a prior five-year plan adopted during the COVID emergency and will be shared with the Grundy County Regional Office of Education (ROE) and the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
Staff said the district publicly noticed the hearing as required: notices were sent to newspapers on Aug. 27 and the district communicated with staff, parents and guardians on Sept. 2 to comply with school code. The presenter said the only substantive changes to the previously approved plan were removal of references to software no longer used by the district and an adjustment to the schedule language so it matches the memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the teacher association (MEA).
Board members asked whether the district currently knows how many families lack home internet; staff replied there is no recent survey and that the last such survey was done during COVID. Staff added the district continues to own and loan a number of hotspots and that public libraries served as a resource during the pandemic. Staff said the plan and supporting materials were included in the board packet and will be filed with the ROE and ISBE once approved.
The board approved the e-learning plan by roll-call vote.
