Courthouse flagpole removed for safety; clerk's office walk-in service to reopen next week

Courthouse flagpole removed for safety; clerk's office walk-in service to reopen next week
At the Sept. 17 Public Works and Safety meeting, staff updated the board that the historic wooden flagpole on the courthouse square was removed after staff and the Blake Courthouse Foundation identified rot and structural damage that required removal for safety and to allow tower repairs.
Staff told the board the foundation reviewed replacement costs and determined the expense to reinstall a new pole on the tower was substantial; as a result, the foundation removed the existing flagpole and intends to place a replacement somewhere on courthouse property. Staff relayed the foundation's request that the board note the change and said the foundation will decide the location of the new pole.
Separately, staff updated the board on the clerk's office walk-in service. The clerk's office closed for plumbing repairs last week and part of this week; staff said the plumbing work is complete, cosmetic work is underway, and walk-in service is expected to resume Monday of next week.
