County IT reports fiber link, Windows 11 upgrades and annex wireless improvements

County information-technology staff told the Executive Committee on Sept. 17 that recent upgrades to the courthouse and annex network should improve speed and reduce outside contractor costs. "We're finishing up the Windows 11 update project," IT staff member Jason Chaney said, adding that his team "upgraded and rewired 2 network boxes on the First Floor of the annex" and installed additional Wi‑Fi units. The update included a new fiber line from the courthouse to the annex that is in testing, Chaney said, and "we're able to get it up to 25 gig speeds, which is 25 times faster than what they currently have." He said the upgrades will allow the county to avoid tens of thousands of dollars in outside work while restoring a 10‑gig backbone within county facilities. Committee members asked no substantive follow-up questions during Chaney's report. The information-technology update was presented as a routine monthly update and there was no formal action taken at the meeting. The IT staff also said future work will continue in the annex, including upgrades on the second floor and then network work in the courthouse. County staff indicated the fiber link is in testing and that the 25‑gig result is an operational target rather than a completed, fully commissioned service. No schedule or contract values were presented at the meeting, and costs were described qualitatively as being "on budget."
