Council approves new police vehicle purchase and K-9 upfitting

The Hibbing City Council on Sept. 17 approved purchase of a 2025 Ford Explorer for the Hibbing Police Department and authorized equipment upfitting for a new K-9 unit.

Police Chief Tim Esty told the council the vehicle purchase through McGovern Motor Company came in under state bid at $45,791; the council approved that purchase. Councilors also approved equipment and upfitting costs of $22,200 for enforcement lighting and K-9–specific equipment.

Both items were approved on motions from councilors with unanimous voice votes recorded in the meeting minutes.
