The City of San Luis City Council approved Change Order No. 10 from MGC Contractors Inc. for $12,609 related to the city's new water well and filtration system project.
Assistant Director of Public Works Jorge Perez said the overall project was nearly complete and that the change order covers piping to pre-lube the well pump, conduit and electrical labor to protect seals and prevent damage. "The whole project was almost $4,000,000 and this last change order proposal is for $12,609," Perez said.
Perez told the council that the department had essentially exhausted the project's budget, which he identified in the meeting as $3,966,900, and recommended transferring funds from another approved water project for the fiscal year — a $1,700,000 allocation for a new booster station — to cover the change.
Nut graf: The council approved the minor change order to complete commissioning and protect the new well's mechanical components; staff will transfer funds within water-department capital projects to cover the cost.
A council member moved to approve the change order and the motion passed by voice vote; the transcript does not record further debate or dissent. The agenda notes the change order pertains to the "new well and treatment unit project."
Ending: Staff indicated the change order work is necessary for equipment protection and that the larger booster-station project budget can absorb the internal transfer, per the assistant director's remarks recorded on the public record.
