At the Sept. 17 Environmental Quality Board meeting Executive Director Kathryn Neuschler reported several agency updates: the Groundwater Policy Report was submitted earlier in the week, staff led pollinator outreach at the state fair and a Minneapolis festival, and EQB will post a vacancy after a longtime staffer accepts a supervisory role at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.
Neuschler told the board the Groundwater Policy Report was submitted on Monday and that interagency partners helped prepare it, highlighting work by Scott Andre of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency who assisted with design and graphics. She said the EQB is working to post all report materials to the agency website.
On outreach, Neuschler credited staff and partners for recent pollinator engagement: ‘‘between pollinator day at the state fair and the Minneapolis Monarch Festival, we talked to close to 1,500 people about pollinators,’’ she said, noting the events included public engagement tools such as a visual quiz.
Neuschler also said the agency is planning further briefings on data centers later this fall in response to board interest and public questions about that sector. She outlined upcoming travel and training by staff and commissioners and reminded eligible public board members about tribal relations training.
Finally, Neuschler announced a staffing change: Colleen Petzel, who presented later in the meeting on rulemaking, will leave EQB in early October to take a supervisory role at the MPCA. Neuschler said a backfill announcement is posted through Sept. 24 and encouraged board members to share the posting.
Board members did not take action on these items; they were provided for information and for board members to flag follow‑up if desired.
