Sunbury — The City Council heard on Sept. 17 that Delco Water will replace a water main on Evening Street from Cherry Street to Grandview, likely closing that section of road for about two weeks beginning Sept. 22, and that Delco Water has issued a temporary water-use advisory through Oct. 1.
The City Engineer advised the Evening Street work will shut the road to through traffic from Monday, Sept. 22 through Friday, Oct. 3, weather permitting, and that school bus routes have been notified because the section is a bus route. Staff said the area is easily detoured and that residents and drivers should expect construction activity in the corridor.
The engineer also relayed Delco Water’s request to reduce water usage through Oct. 1 and described a voluntary odd/even outdoor irrigation recommendation: residents with odd-numbered addresses water Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays; even-numbered addresses water Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The advisory was described as an interim measure to manage demand.
Nut graf: The planned two-week water‑main replacement and the concurrent water‑use advisory are near-term infrastructure and service items affecting residents along Evening Street and nearby neighborhoods.
Ending: The city encouraged residents to plan for detours and follow Delco Water’s temporary irrigation schedule; the work is expected to be completed and the road reopened after Oct. 3, depending on weather.
