Summary
The committee approved multi-year extensions and funding increases for several Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) lab-service contracts and a two-year extension with Atlas Technical Consultants for interim corrective action work at two remediation sites.
The Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget approved multiple contract extensions requested by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), including lab-service extensions and an interim corrective-action extension.
Fran Falk, fiscal officer for DEQ, asked the committee to approve a two‑year extension and $240,000 increase to a contract with Atlas Technical Consultants for interim corrective action at two remediation sites, which the department said was necessary to continue technical work while remediation planning proceeds. DEQ remediation scientist Keith Horn was at the table to answer technical questions.
DEQ also requested extensions to three laboratory-service contracts:
- Montrose Air Quality Services: extend term 24 months and add $162,000 to the contract amount for critical lab services. - PACE: extend the term by one year and add $325,000 to the total contract amount at current rates and terms. - Element Materials Technology: extend term by one year and add $230,000 to the contract amount.
Falk told the committee DEQ has been satisfied with vendor performance and recommended approval of the extensions. Committee members moved to approve each extension; motions carried.
Ending: The committee approved the DEQ requests and noted the extensions were intended to maintain continuity of lab and remediation services while the department completes planning and procurement for longer-term needs.
