WIMBERLEY, Texas — On Sept. 8 the Wimberley City Council proclaimed October 2025 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and heard from Nicole Preston of the Hays‑Caldwell Women’s Center about increased local demand for services.
Mayor Pro Tem Rebecca Minnick read a proclamation citing statewide and local statistics included in the council packet and called on residents to partner with HCWC to end domestic violence. Nicole Preston, director of nonresidential counseling at HCWC, told the council the center had directly served 225 people from Wimberley in the past year — a 36% increase from the previous year — and that HCWC is handling a growing counseling wait list with 38 people waiting for counseling and seven counselors on staff.
Preston described HCWC’s services: nonresidential counseling, advocacy, shelter, and a transitional housing program called Marler’s Place and noted partnerships, including a Head Start collaboration for families. She said fall is typically HCWC’s busiest season and asked for community support.
Action: The mayor pro tem signed the proclamation; council did not take further formal action.
Why it matters: Local providers say demand for domestic‑violence services is rising and counseling resources are constrained; the proclamation aims to raise awareness and point residents to services.
