Council approved the purchase of a 2025 Ford Explorer police vehicle for $44,265 to bolster a police fleet that officials said has dwindled. Separately, council approved a financing arrangement to complete purchase of previously ordered dump trucks and three electric garbage trucks; staff described the financing as a five-year purchase facility with a 4.43% interest rate and no prepayment penalty. Officials said the borough expects to seek state reimbursement for the electric-truck purchases and therefore will retire the financing when reimbursements arrive.
On timing, borough staff said one small electric truck is expected in December and the other two in spring; council was told that no payments would be required on the financing until September of the following year. Council members asked whether the borough should pay cash for some vehicles to avoid interest costs; one councilor urged using existing reserves to pay off the dump trucks rather than incur additional interest.
