WIMBERLEY, Texas — The Wimberley City Council on Sept. 8 proclaimed Oct. 10, 2025, as World Homeless Day in the city and heard from Nancy Heintz of the Homeless Coalition of Hays County about a slate of October events and services.
Mayor Pro Tem Rebecca Minnick read the proclamation recognizing the global observance and noting national and state estimates cited in the proclamation. The mayor pro tem said the city “recognizes the inherent right of all individuals to safe, stable, and affordable housing,” and encouraged residents to learn about homelessness and support local organizations.
Nancy Heintz, a board member of the Homeless Coalition of Hays County, thanked the council and outlined local activities: “We are trying to do what we’re calling coffee and conversation” — a local discussion on Oct. 8 hosted by Barnabas Connection — and a countywide second‑chance job fair on Sept. 27. She also described Southside Community Center’s expanded services planned for Oct. 10 (showers, additional meals, immunizations, haircuts and hygiene kits).
Why it matters: The coalition said coordinated services and outreach are intended to help people experiencing homelessness and to connect them to shelter, health and workforce resources.
