WIMBERLEY, Texas — The Wimberley City Council approved an amendment to the municipal retirement program on Sept. 8, increasing the employee contribution rate from 5% to 6% under Ordinance No. 2025‑19.
City Administrator Tim Pawtek told the council the change was included in the adopted budget and noted the state legislative adjustment allows cities to set employee contribution rates up to 8 percent. “It’s a real benefit to the employee…and our match is 2 to 1,” Pawtek said during discussion.
Council members said the increase improves retirement benefits and can help with employee recruitment and retention. The ordinance change will be submitted to the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) for implementation.
Action: A motion to approve the increase carried unanimously.
Why it matters: Raising employee contributions increases retirement savings for city employees and changes the city’s long‑term pension cost profile; the council included the increase in the adopted budget.
