WIMBERLEY, Texas — The Wimberley City Council on Sept. 8 authorized staff to issue a request for proposals (RFP) for an aquatics feasibility study to examine whether the city should invest in pools, splash pads or expanded river access, and to identify possible sites and funding partnerships.
Parks Director Richard Shaver told the council the work is part of the city’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan and that the Parks and Recreation Board reviewed and unanimously approved the RFP earlier in the month. “The consultants…will work with staff and residents to analyze demand, review potential sites, develop concept alternatives, and provide cost estimates and funding strategies,” Shaver said.
Council members pressed staff to ensure the study examines partnerships, including the school district, nearby communities and nonprofit operators such as the YMCA. “If we can come up with some sort of a sustainable system…we could get county participation but that may require an interlocal agreement,” one council member said during debate.
Cost and timing: staff said previous consultants estimated the study could cost roughly $30,000–$50,000. The city anticipates completing the RFP solicitation period and awarding a contract in January 2026.
