The Village of Deerfield Board of Trustees on Sept. 15 approved Amendment No. 2 to the village’s power supply agreement with MC Squared Energy Services (MC²), extending the electricity aggregation contract for two years.
Under the municipal aggregation program — created after a 2012 referendum and run in cooperation with seven neighboring communities as the North Shore Electricity Aggregation Consortium — MC² supplies commodity electricity while residents remain customers of ComEd for delivery and outages, Jessica (Jess) (staff) told the board during the presentation. The consortium negotiated the new two‑year contract after a competitive bidding process.
The contract extension will continue a program structure that pays the village $60,000 in civic grant contributions that the village can apply to environmental initiatives such as items in its climate action report. The village staff emphasized that residents incur no enrollment or termination fees and will pay the same rate as published ComEd tariffs; outage reporting and infrastructure responsibility remain with ComEd.
Trustees described the program as successful and praised the consortium’s leadership in energy policy. After a motion and second, the board approved the resolution by roll call; trustees recorded unanimous support.
The staff presentation referenced the municipal legal authority for aggregation and noted the village’s original ComEd price‑match aggregation agreement with MC² began in 2021 and received a one‑year extension in 2024.
