Mayor highlights Lake Wilmore fields, airport control tower groundbreaking and State of the City date

Mayor Ron Anders told the council he attended the opening night of youth football at the Lake Wilmore Athletic Complex and praised the new artificial-turf multipurpose fields, saying the project will provide a stable home for youth athletics. Anders also described participating in the groundbreaking for a new airport control tower at the Auburn University Regional Airport and credited Congressman Mike Rogers for helping secure resources for the project. He said the tower will be an asset for safety, education and economic development. The mayor thanked Representative Joe Lovern for involvement in renaming the Exit 57 bridge the Benny Atkins Memorial Bridge and invited residents to the State of the City on Oct. 2 at 5:30 p.m. at the Gooch Performing Arts Center. Anders closed by asking the community to keep the Chenelly family in their thoughts and prayers.
