City approves $5.73 million purchase of 25.257‑acre site for new Arvada water treatment plant

The Arvada City Council approved a resolution on Sept. 16 authorizing the city to buy a 25.257‑acre property at 6809 State Highway 93, Golden, for $5,730,000 as the site of a new Arvada Water Treatment Plant. City staff said the existing Arvada Water Treatment Plant has reached the end of its useful life and that a new facility at the selected site will better meet future demand, comply with water quality standards, and improve sustainability and resilience.
Senior staff member Miss Rhodes told council that the city evaluated alternatives, including rebuilding on the current site, and selected the Highway 93 property after a “rigorous process” because it met design and future expansion needs. The purchase agreement was updated in the agenda packet to reflect the correct acreage (25.257 acres) and the current meeting date.
Council member Pfeiffer moved approval and council voted unanimously with Council member Rupert excused. Staff said annexation of the property into Arvada will be a next step in the process. The owner of the property attended the meeting; staff thanked the owner for working with the city to reach the agreement.
Ending: With the purchase authorized, city staff will move forward with negotiated closing and follow next steps including annexation and project planning to design and build a replacement water treatment facility.
