Committee approves slate of year-end tax and budget resolutions for consideration by full board

At a Ways and Means Committee meeting, the clerk of the board, Brenda Rigby Reel, read a series of year-end resolutions and the committee approved each for consideration by the full board on scheduled dates. The items approved for consideration include a resolution to re-levy village taxes effective Nov. 1, 2025; a resolution to re-levy school taxes effective Nov. 1; a levy for unpaid sewer and water charges; the adoption schedule for the 2026 county final budget; a resolution levying county taxes; and a resolution making appropriations for the 2026 fiscal year. "Number 2 is a resolution for the re levy of return village taxes effective 11/01/2025. This will be considered at our November 12 board meeting," the clerk read. For each numbered resolution (items 2 through 15 in the clerk’s reading), a motion and second were recorded and the committee voted the items carried. Among the items the committee placed on the Dec. 10 full-board calendar were the final assessment rolls and tax warrants, levies and appropriations for towns, a resolution delegating authority to approve certain real property tax refunds up to $2,500 to the county administrator, and a resolution fixing the date of the organizational meeting for Jan. 2, 2026. The committee approved a resolution to levy the town share of a 2026 mutual self-insurance plan in the amount of $329,809; the clerk said the county will charge back assessment-related costs to towns on the 2026 tax rolls with the total chargeback amount to be determined in November. Committee members also clarified that one transfer item (authorizing transfers between appropriation accounts for end-of-year balancing) should be moved from Dec. 10 to Dec. 17. During discussion the clerk noted a missing town name in the levy list and a member asked whether Cuba has a water district; the clerk responded she did not believe Cuba has a water district. The committee approved the slate with motions and recorded "Aye" votes; no dissenting votes were recorded in the transcript.
