Geneva HPC plans window‑rehab workshop; court enforcement hearing update announced

Planning staff also asked commissioners to brainstorm dates for a public workshop on window rehabilitation. Commissioners and staff discussed holding the workshop on a Saturday or an evening to increase attendance. Several commissioners suggested early next year, with February named as a likely month. The Geneva History Museum and the public library were mentioned as possible venues.
Staff described the workshop as a practical session intended to help owners weigh options for repairing historic windows versus replacing them, with potential presentations from local contractors and preservation practitioners who have rehabilitated older windows. "Like, Andersen windows that are 20 years old that are falling apart compared to a new window. I know window that is a 100 years old that can be refurbished," a commissioner summarized the practical contrast the workshop might cover. Staff said they will compile commissioner availability and finalize dates with Emily, the preservation staff member.
No formal decisions were made about the workshop date at the meeting. The commission asked members to email available dates for late fall and winter and indicated a preference to avoid October and some busy weekends. Staff will follow up with a proposed date and venue once member availability is collected.
Separately, staff noted an item of public interest: mitigation documentation for an earlier demolition at the former bottling plant had been provided to the State Historic Preservation Office and staff confirmed SHPO released its letter before demolition permits were issued. The commission received that update without further action.
