He said the MSBA staff asked detailed questions about post‑construction maintenance and whether towns can sustain upkeep after building projects are completed.
Hackett also told the committee that MSBA reported 126 total applications in the last round, with 27 applying as core program projects and 99 applying under the accelerated repair track; 17 of the 27 core projects were receiving senior site visits. He described the district’s recent life‑extension work at Morocco as visible to the MSBA and noted the agency’s concern that grant recipients be able to maintain new construction or renovations over time.
No committee action was required or taken on the MSBA update. Hackett said the district will learn more in November and that the MSBA board would act Dec. 12 if Morocco is invited into the eligibility process. The superintendent cautioned that, even if the district is found eligible, construction would not begin immediately.
