Tooele County awarded a $239,006.30 contract to Mike Zimmerman Well Service LLC to drill the initial well for the Iberpaw Veil project, the first phase of work funded by a Bureau of Reclamation WaterSMART grant. The council approved the contract by unanimous voice vote after staff presented the project scope and bid results.
County staff member Jed said the project is the first phase of executing the WaterSMART grant and consists only of drilling the well at this time; later phases will add a well house, pumping equipment, storage tanks and fencing, also part of the grant. “It’s a backup for the water system out there,” Jed said. He described uses including fire suppression support, washing equipment, wetting soils during road grading for dust control and serving as a culinary backup if local wells fail.
Jed said the county issued a public solicitation and received three competitive bids; Mike Zimmerman Well Service LLC was the lowest responsible bidder. The project includes two future 5,000‑gallon underground tanks and a well house to support pumping and storage for fire‑fighting and community backup. Councilman Hoffman moved to approve the contract; Councilman Stromberg seconded, and the motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
