The Waukee City Council approved an ordinance on consent to amend the city code to incorporate changes enacted by the 2025 Iowa Legislature. Becky, the city clerk, told the council the ordinance incorporates state legislative changes addressing conflicts of interest, retail alcohol licenses, misrepresentation of service animals, public notice requirements and modifications to the cigarette and tobacco licensing chapter; the tobacco chapter will be repealed and replaced. The ordinance also amends local fireworks rules to include July 3 and Dec. 31 as allowable dates for fireworks use.
Becky clarified the ordinance does not include zoning changes; those will be addressed separately when appropriate. The council approved the ordinance by unanimous vote after the clerk's summary and no public opposition was reported.
The ordinance was introduced, the council waived second and third readings and placed the ordinance on final passage as allowed under the city's procedural rules for items on consent.
