Hauppauge board adopts five-year '2030' strategic plan

The Hauppauge Union Free School District Board of Education on a unanimous vote adopted a five-year strategic plan, described by Superintendent Dr. Murphy as the district’s “North Star” for 2025–2030.

The plan, presented at the board’s business meeting, lays out three board priority areas — student experience, academic excellence and community and operations — with 36 specific objectives the administration says will guide district work and annual reporting.

Dr. Murphy said the plan was developed over more than a year with input from more than 70 participants, including PTA members, teachers, custodial and security staff, and board members. “This is a 5 year plan,” he said, “and so it lines up nicely… it will serve as kind of our North Star for the work ahead.”

Board members reviewed feedback gathered through a ThoughtExchange process and multiple committee sessions, and the superintendent said the plan will be posted on the district website and tracked through annual updates to the board.

The document lists 12 focus areas tied to student experience, academic excellence and community operations, and identifies actions ranging from expanding career and technical education pathways to modernizing facilities and increasing community engagement. Dr. Murphy highlighted existing and planned facilities and curricular investments — including STEM and innovation labs, vocational pathways through BOCES and recent campus construction — as evidence of ongoing work the plan will build on.

The board member making the motion to adopt described the plan as the product of broad community collaboration; the motion passed 7-0.

The superintendent said he will return during the year with operational reports showing how the plan’s objectives are being implemented and measured.
