ASD board resumes 'rightsizing' work with emphasis on childcare, repurposing options

At its Sept. 16 work session, the Anchorage School District board heard staff briefings restarting the district's rightsizing work and a recommended six‑week timeline for bringing school‑capacity analyses, community input and repurposing options back to the board for a decision before Thanksgiving. Staff framed the effort around minimizing disruption to students and identifying community uses for excess space, including commercial child‑care partnerships.

District staff said the work matters because enrollment continues to decline and current state counting rules do not reflect all classroom use at ASD.
