Council confirms multiple board and commission appointments following executive session

At the start of the meeting council announced it had held a closed executive session under the Texas Open Meetings Act and reconvened to appoint members and chairs to multiple boards and commissions. The council approved a series of appointments and chair nominations by unanimous votes.

Appointments approved included the Board of Adjustment (Michael Perrick appointed from alternate to regular member; Karen Balessa named chair); Building Standards Commission (William Clay appointed chair; Justin Adcock and John Gallagher named members); Heritage Commission (Scott Goble, Mindy Mendez and Corey Renicker appointed; chair to be named at a future meeting); Planning and Zoning Commission chair (Bennett Ratliff appointed); and numerous other boards including Animal Shelter Advisory Committee, Civil Service Commission, Community Relations Commission, Cultural Arts Commission, Library Advisory Board, Parks and Recreation Planning Board, Plano Housing Authority, Retirement Security Plan Committee and Senior Advisory Board. Several tax increment reinvestment zone boards were also addressed with member and chair appointments.

Most motions were made by council members during reconvened open session, seconded, and passed by an 8–0 hand vote. A staff member noted an open veterinarian appointment on the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee that the council is still recruiting.

Council thanked the appointees for their service and said the boards and commissions play an important role in advising city decisions. The council recorded no dissent on the slate of appointments at this meeting.
