Select Board backs salary-administration changes and moves to fund police lieutenant contract in fall warrant process

The Select Board voted on Sept. 16 to support a package of Salary Administration Plan (SAP) warrant articles (articles 5–7) recommended by the Personnel Board. The changes are intended to place 11 long-tenured, nonunion employees on appropriate grade-and-step pay levels to improve pay equity and reduce turnover. "Turnover is almost always more expensive than just keeping a valued employee," a board member said during the discussion. Separately, the board discussed a tentative contract for the police lieutenants’ unit and confirmed the need to appropriate first-year funding in the fall warrant if negotiations conclude. Town negotiators said they had meetings scheduled and expected to know more about the path forward before the board’s Oct. 7 warrant-signing meeting. The board voted to support the salary-administration plan adjustments and authorized staff to bring a contract-appropriation article for the police lieutenants to the warrant once the negotiated terms are finalized.
