The Select Board discussed Sept. 16 a proposal to use PEG/cable-access funds to upgrade audio-visual equipment in the McAuliffe hearing room to support hybrid and higher-quality remote meetings. Town staff said approximately $300,000 is available in the PEG accounts; the board emphasized the money would not come from property-tax revenue. IT staff and the Municipal Technology Committee are collecting updated vendor quotes and refining room layout and feature requirements; the board asked for a final cost estimate to include in the warrant and for staff to confirm the scope of recording, automated minutes and camera control options before the Oct. 7 warrant-signing deadline. The Select Board said the appropriation would be drawn from PEG/Franchise funds (Verizon/Charter/Comcast franchise revenues) and not the general fund, and members noted the upgrade could reduce manual minute-taking burdens by producing more robust automated transcripts for committee work. The board deferred a vote on the article until the Oct. 7 packet so the motion can specify a final appropriation amount and an implementation plan.
